Women’s Lacrosse Drops 13-5 Decision to UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-5 non-conference decision to the hosts, UMass Dartmouth, in Tuesday evening non-conference action at Cressy Field.

 

The Corsairs outscored the Lancers 8-1 in the first frame, and held their lead in the second half as Worcester State accumulated four goals while holding the hosts to just five.

 

UMass Dartmouth's Leah Douty (Framingham Mass.) began the Corsairs' scoring with three consecutive shots, from where Julia DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) and Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) each collected one apiece. Worcester State's Mackenzie Little (Marlboro, Mass.) broke UMass Dartmouth's scoring streak to put the score at 5-1. However, the Corsairs ended the half with three more consecutive goals, resulting in an 8-1 halftime score.

 

The teams went hand-in-hand with shots in the second half, until the Corsairs ended the game with two of their own to result in a final score of 13-5.

 

Douty led the Corsiars with four goals, while Kish and Kathryn Gibb (Georgetown, Mass.) registered two apiece. UMass Dartmouth's Kaitlyn Burchill (6-5) earned the win in goal, as she made 14 stops in goal. She also collected a game-high six ground balls for the hosts.

 

Worcester State was led by Little and Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who recorded two goals and three ground balls apiece. Rookie Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) tallied the other goal for the Blue and Gold. Little led the team in draws with six.

 

Worcester State's Krissy Pessa (3-7) suffered the loss and stopped 9-of-22 shots on net.

 

Next up, the women's lacrosse team hosts Bridgewater State on Saturday (Apr. 15) in a 12 p.m. tilt at Coughlin Field.
