WORCESTER, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) named Worcester State to the the 2017 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad and recognized three Worcester State women's lacrosse players on the Division III Academic Honor Roll.

"I am extremely proud of our women's lacrosse team being named to the IWLCA honor squad," commented head women's lacrosse coach, Kelly Downs. "It's great to see the girls not only excel on the field, but also dedicate themselves to their studies in the classroom."

For a team to be named to the Academic Honor Squad, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. Worcester State was one of 308 schools across Division I, II, and II and the NAIA to earn this prestigious honor.

In addition to the team posting above a 3.0 GPA in the 2016-17 academic year, there were three Worcester State individuals who were recognized on the Academic Honor Roll for earning a cumulative academic GPA of a 3.50 or greater.

The three recognized were senior goaltender Krissy Pessa (Walpole, Mass.), senior attack Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, Mass.), and junior defender Alexa Harvey (Attleboro, Mass.). To be eligible for this honor, the individual must be a junior, senior, or a graduate student and meet the minimum GPA requirements.

Downs added, "We try to focus on the full meaning on the word 'student-athlete' and these three lacrosse girls take full pride in that."

The IWLCA honored 532 student-athletes from 159 different institutions on the Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor roll.
