MASCAC Student-Athlete Spotlight: Kylie Farrell

MASCAC Student-Athlete Spotlight: Kylie Farrell

Over her first three years at Worcester State, Kylie Farrell has been heavily involved with the school's SAAC. After the MASCAC Meeting on Sunday, December 3, Farrell will get her chance to impact much more than just her own institution as the new MASCAC SAAC President.

The junior from Sutton, Mass. is majoring in health education at Worcester State. A conversation with the field hockey coach her senior of high school brought Farrell on the campus. The more research she did, the more she fell in love with it and decided her future was there. Being a student-athlete, she loves how the school has provided her the opportunity to get an education while continuing her athletic career.

As part of the field hockey team as a freshman, Farrell was involved in a community service project that left a lasting imprint. The team volunteered their time at "Why Me?" a local house for kids with cancer and their families to live when all of their money is going towards their medical bills. They cleaned the entire house and spent time playing the kids helping them smile through the pain. For Farrell, it felt good seeing the kids smile and left the place feeling happy knowing they helped them forget about everything for a little while.

Farrell feels like her experience in Division III has helped her learn better time management, leadership and communication skills. All those qualities will come in handy following graduation as she wants to work in a hospital emergency room as a radiologist.

Starting as a field hockey student-athlete for the Lancers, Farrell soon transitioned over to women's lacrosse. Her high school didn't offer women's lacrosse so all that she learned was at Worcester State. Last women's lacrosse season, Farrell scored 10 goals with three assists and a 58.8 shooting percentage.

Although she still has some time left in college, Farrell already knows the importance of things she has learned in college and how they have prepared her for life after it. When asked, the greatest lesson she has learned is how to work with all kinds of people whether you agree or disagree with them.
