WORCESTER, Mass. – The Westfield State Owls netted 11 first-half goals to help the visitors to a 16-4 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win over the Lancers of Worcester State on their senior day.

SENIOR RECOGNITION
Prior to the game, Worcester State recognized its 2018 senior class: Team Manager Hayley Sutherland (Tewksbury, Mass.), #4 Meghan Pini (Natick, Mass.), #9 Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, Mass.), #12 Julia Snow (Worcester, Mass.), captain #14 Mackenzie Little (Marlborough, Mass.), and captain #20 Alexa Harvey (Attleboro, Mass.).
1ST HALF
Worcester State's Kaylee Krajewski (Holyoke, Mass.) began the game with a goal, with a helping hand from Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) to give the Lancers their only lead of the game at 1-0. Marissa Nimeskern (Hanover, Mass.) began the Owls scoring flurry with a goal coming off a free position shot. Stephanie Godek (West Springfield, Mass.) led the charge with three goals in the half for the Owls, with Rachel Testa (Westminster, Mass.), Hunter Zackaricz (Southampton, Mass.), and Sam Danohoe (Pepperell, Mass.) all chipped in with one goal each in the half. Lucy Barrett (Williamstown, Mass.) scored two of her own in the half as well. The Owls would post 11 goals in the half leading to an 11-1 halftime lead.
2ND HALF
The Lancers came out and scored three more in the second half. Little netted two while Vecchiarelli scored the other. The Owls were able to put up five goals in the stanza bringing their total up to 16 on the game with Sydney Lambert (Hanover, Mass.) leading the Owls with two in the frame. The Owls would win the game 16-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Godek was the leader for the Owls scoring three goals and one assist. Samantha Coyle (Weymouth, Mass.) was tied for the team lead in ground balls, to go along with her goal and assist, Sara Stapleton (Dedham, Mass.) also had a goal to pair with her two ground balls.
- Westfield completed 23 of their 26 clear attempts while Worcester State cleared 11 of their 13 attempts.
- Little recorded two goals in the game, being one of the three different Lancers to score.
- On the Westfield side, had 10 different players who scored on 16 goals.
- Both teams recorded double-digit turnovers on the game with Westfield winning the turnover battle 15 to 22.
- The visitors outshot the Lancers 32-16 throughout the game.
UP NEXT
The Lancers have two games remaining on the docket as they will travel to Fitchburg State on April 25, followed by a game at Salem State on the 28th to close out the regular season.
