Worcester State Earns No. 4 Seed in 2018 MASCAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team finished fourth in the regular season and, with that, earns the No. 4 seed in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's lacrosse tournament.

 

The Lancers finished 4-3 in league play this season under second year head coach Kelly Downs. The Lancers currently are led by senior Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, Mass.) who has 63 points on 45 goals and 18 assists. She also has 22 ground balls, caused eight turnovers and won a draw.

 

The tournament begins on Tuesday with the quarterfinals. No. 3 Bridgewater State will host No. 6 Salem State at 3:30 p.m. while No. 4 Worcester State will entertain No. 5 Fitchburg State at 6 p.m. The winner of Worcester State/Fitchburg State will face top seed Westfield State while the winner of Bridgewater State/Salem State will play second seed Framingham State on Thursday both at 7 pm in the semifinal round.

 

Both semifinals will face off on Saturday, May 5 in the championship game for the MASCAC title and the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. 

 

During the 2017 MASCAC Tournament, second seed Westfield State defeated top seed Bridgewater State 15-5 for their first tournament title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
