Women's Lacrosse Can't Overcome First Half Flurry in Loss to Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season on Tuesday evening, as the Lancers fell to #24 Colorado College by a final score of 17-7.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 1-1 on the season. Colorado College stays perfect at 4-0.

Freshman Madison Brennan (Pomfret, Conn.) opened the scoring in the contest for Worcester State, giving the Lancers a 1-0 advantage 1:06 into the game. After Brennan's goal however, the first half was all Tigers. The hosts would rattle off 11 straight goals in the period before Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) ended the scoring drought with two minutes remaining in the half. The teams would go to the locker room with Colorado College holding a 13-2 advantage.

Brennan and Austin both completed hat tricks in a much more evenly played second half, but the damage was already done from the opening 30 minutes and the Lancers couldn't rebound. Junior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) tacked on her first goal of the season with under a minute to go to give the game its final score of 17-7.

In the defeat, Worcester State sophomore Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) made six saves.

The Lancers will return to action back in Massachusetts with a home game on March 20 against Smith, which is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
