Women's Lacrosse Marches Past Colonels

MILTON, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team used an 11-goal second half explosion to blow past Curry College by a final of 17-7 Tuesday afternoon at Katz Field.

With the win, Worcester State improves to 3-2 overall on the season, while the Colonels fall to 4-4 on the year.

Worcester State found the back of the net for the game's first five goals, including a pair of tallies from sophomore Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.). Junior Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) and sophomores Hannah Sledzieski (Northamption, Mass.) and Abby Magnuson (Ellington, Conn.) also added tallies during the five-goal game-opening run. Freshman Ann Maher (Mansfield, Mass.) found the back of the net late in the half, but Curry scored four the final five goals of the half to trail by a margin of 6-4 at the break.

The Lancers were dominant right out of the gate in the second half, closing out the victory with an impressive 11-3 scoring margin in the game's final 30 minutes. Reigning MASCAC Rookie of the Week Madison Brennan (Pomfret, Conn.) got the scoring started with a man-up tally just 23 seconds into the half, and from there the Lancers were off and running to the victory. Austin would score four goals in the period, with Brennan scoring three, sophomore Coley Hayes (Norwell, Mass.) scoring two, and junior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.) each adding one.

Sophomore Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) earned her third victory of the season between the pipes, recording five saves. Maher was credited with a pair of assists in the victory, while Magnuson got one as well for the Lancers.

Next up for Worcester State, they will open conference play on Saturday afternoon with a contest at home against Salem State, starting at noon from John F. Coughlin Field.
