Women's Lacrosse Runs Win Streak to Three by Defeating ECSU

MANSFIELD, Conn. - Junior Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) celebrated her birthday in style Tuesday evening with five goals and an assist as her Worcester State University women's lacrosse team defeated Eastern Connecticut State University 13-8 in non-conference action at the Mansfield Athletic Complex.

With the win, Worcester State extends its winning streak to three games, and improves to 5-2 on the season. 

Austin scored four of her five goals in the first half, as Worcester State carried a 5-3 lead into the break. Sophomore Coley Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal in addition to Austin's four. 

The Lancers kicked it into another gear to open the second half, scoring the period's first five goals in 9:55 to jump ahead 10-3. Junior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored two goals on the run, while Austin, freshman Ann Maher (Mansfield, Mass.), and sophomore Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.) all added single goals during the burst. Hopkins and sophomore Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.) each scored two more goals later in the half for some insurance en route to the victory.

Sophomore Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) recorded eight saves for Worcester State to record her fifth win of the season between the pipes.

Worcester State will return to MASCAC action on Friday evening with a 7 p.m. start against Mass. Maritime on the road.
