Lacrosse Soars Over Fitchburg State

WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University women's lacrosse easily soared over the Fitchburg State University Falcons, 18-2, in Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at John F. Coughlin Field.

With the win, the Lancers improve to 10-4 overall on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Falcons fall to 2-13 overall, 1-5 in MASCAC.

Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) opened up scoring for the Falcons before the Lancers took over control of the ball. Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) found the back of the net four times for the Lancers in the first thirty minutes of play for the Lancers. Abby Magnuson (Ellington, Conn.) and Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.) both tallied three goals apiece in the first half. The combined efforts of all Lancers sent the team into the second half with a 13-2 lead.

Hill, on a free position shot, sent one sailing past the Fitchburg State goalie to start the second half. Sarah Cohan (Lowell, Mass.) ended the scoring for the Lancers, which put Worcester State ahead 18-2.

Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) grabbed eight saves on ten shots in the Lancer win. Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mass.) tallied ten saves in the loss while Brianna Smith (Dorchester, Mass.) grabbed one in the Falcon loss.

The Lancers will head to out to Framingham State University on Saturday to close out their regular season play, with the game set to start at 12 p.m.
