Women's Lacrosse Eliminated by Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close on Thursday night, falling to Framingham State 17-11 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinals at Maple Street Field.

With the win, Framingham heads to the MASCAC Championship game, which they will host on Saturday evening. Worcester State is eliminated from the tournament, and finishes its season with a record of 11-6.

Worcester State opened the scoring on a free position goal from junior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) just under four minutes in, but Framingham quickly scored three unanswered to take a 3-1 lead.

The Lancers responded with back-to-back tallies from Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) and Coley Hayes (Norwood, Mass.), tying the score at 3-3 with 13:54 remaining in the half. Framingham would score seven of the next nine goals in the half, however, to take a 10-5 lead into the break.

The host Rams continued to control the play in the second half to punch their ticket to the MASCAC Championship game for the second consecutive season. Austin scored twice in the second half, with Hayes and sophomores Kylie Hill (Lunenburg, Mass.), Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.), and Abby Magnuson (Ellington, Conn.) all adding single goals.

Goalkeeper Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) got the loss for Worcester State, making one save in the defeat.

Austin had four goals and an assist to lead the way for the Lancers. Hayes recorded three goals and an assist.
