WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women’s lacrosse team announced its 2019 schedule on Thursday afternoon.

The Lancers will take part in 17 contests during the regular season in 2019, including eight at home at John Coughlin Field. Five of Worcester State’s first seven games will be played at home, including the season opener on Tuesday, February 26 against Roger Williams.

Worcester State head to Colorado Springs, Colo. on its spring break trip, playing a neutral site contest against Whitman College on Sunday, March 10, before playing Colorado College on Wednesday, March 13. The Lancers will host their One Love Game on Saturday, March 23 as Western Connecticut State visits Coughlin Field. The One Love Foundation was created in honor of the late University of Virginia women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love, who was killed by her boyfriend in 2010. The foundation was created to educate young people about the effects of relationship abuse.

The Lancers, who finished fourth in last season’s Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a record of 4-3, open conference play on Saturday, March 30 when they host Salem State. The Vikings finished in sixth place in the conference in 2018 with a 2-5 record, and Worcester State came away with a 13-6 victory when the two teams met in the regular season.

The annual Worcester State lacrosse Alumni Game will take place at the conclusion of the Lancers’ matchup with Bridgewater State on Saturday, April 13. Worcester State’s contest against the Bears is slated for 12 p.m., with the Alumni Game immediately following.

Worcester State will play the two-time reigning MASCAC Champions from Westfield State on the road on Saturday, April 20 in a rematch of last season’s MASCAC Semifinal in which the Owls prevails. Westfield State won its first round game in the NCAA Tournament over Morrisville State, before falling to the eventual national champion Gettysburg. Westfield State finished the season with an overall record of 18-3.

Senior Day 2019 will be held on Wednesday, April 24, prior to Worcester State’s 7 p.m. matchup with MASCAC foe Fitchburg State. The MASCAC Tournament will commence less than a week later on April 30, with the semifinals set for May 2, and the championship set for May 4.

“I’m very excited for the season to get underway,” said head coach Kelly Downs. “I feel we have a strong out-of-conference schedule that will prepare our team for a competitive season in the MASCAC. I know our players are eager to get started.”
