Women's Soccer Falls To Nationally-Ranked MIT, 4-0

Worcester, MA --- MIT freshman Olivia Struckman (Scottsdale, AZ) potted two goals and senior Ambika Krishnamachar (Darien, CT) chipped in with one marker and two assists as the pair helped pace the  Engineers to a 4-0 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference women's soccer action at Coughlin Field.

With the win the Cardinal and Gray remain unbeaten at 3-0 while the Lancers fall to 1-1 on the campaign.

MIT is ranked #25 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Continental Tire Division III Women's Soccer Top 25 poll as one of three teams representing the New England region.

Struckman helped the visitors get on the board in the 22nd minute as she rifled a shot past the keeper following a pass from the left side by Krishmanachar.

Building on the 1-0 advantage at the intermission, Krishmanachar put the Engineers up by two with her first goal of the campaign after she drilled a baseline tally just 1:28 into the second frame.

Struckman put the Scarlet and Gray up 3-0 in the 48th minute with her third of the season. Struckman dribbled with a pinpoint pass by Krishmanachar and finished to the bottom right corner from the middle of the box.

Freshman Julia Goupil (Los Altos, CA) netted her first collegiate tally in the 77th minute off her own rebound that rang off the left post, following a free kick by senior Elena Gianotas (Trabuco Canyon, CA) from 30 yards away.

The Lancers had several chances to break the shutout as time wound down in the final stanza.

In the 60th minute, senior Shelby Archer (Dayville, CT) hit classmate Cassie Giardina (Pittsfield, MA), but Giardinia couldn't finish things off on the right side of the box.

Senior Margo Clifford's (Attleboro, MA) cross in front of the cage to sophomore Kendal Bergenholtz (Grafton, MA) was also knocked out of harm's way by MIT's back line with just under 18 minutes left in regulation.

Engineer sophomore Lauren Ullmann (Princeton, NJ) stopped both shots she saw in the opening half while recording her third consecutive shutout of the year. Junior Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, MA) registered four saves in the losing decision.

The Cardinal and Gray led in shots (13-2), attempts on goal (8-2) and corners (6-2).

Both squads continue their non-league schedule with games on Saturday. Worcester State hosts Rhode Island College at noon while MIT entertains Claremont Mudd-Scripps at 7 o'clock.
