Macomber, Evans Aid Women's Soccer In 5-1 Victory Over Framingham State

Framingham, MA --- Junior Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, MA) and senior Kaleigh Evans (Saugus, MA) both recorded one marker and one assist to highlight four different goal scorers as Worcester State dispatched Framingham State, 5-1, in MASCAC women's soccer action at the Maple Street Field.

With the win the Lancers improve to 7-1 (2-0 MASCAC) while the Rams slide to 5-3 and when 1-1 in conference action.

Macomber notched her team-best eighth of the campaign just 6:50 into the contest as she recorded an unassisted tally on a floater from the left side of the box that was tucked into the top right corner for the early lead.

Worcester State took the 2-0 margin into the intermission when a Framingham State defender deflected the ball into the net during a corner kick.

Evans took a feed from senior Cassie Giardina (Pittsfield, MA) in the 52nd minute for the three-goal margin after she beat the Rams keeper to a ball on the right side of the net.

A trio goals by both squads in a span of three minutes closed the contests scoring. Senior Sarina Lathrop (Hopedale, MA) tapped in a cross in the 82nd minute before FSU sophomore Michaela Hyland (E. Longmeadow, MA) broke the shutout nearly 90 seconds later.

Senior Margo Clifford (Attleboro, MA) capped off the outburst of scoring for the Lancers who put up their second highest sum of the season on a dish from the right by Evans.

Junior Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, MA) turned aside 10 of the 11 shots she saw between the pipes in the victory while her counterpart, sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, MA), was credited with four saves.

Framingham State actually outshot their opponents, 20-17, and held the slim 9-8 lead in corner kicks.

Both squads return to action on Wednesday at 7 PM on the road. WSU heads to Western Connecticut as the Rams take on Roger Williams in Bristol, RI.
