Macomber Recognized With NSCAA All-New England Region Laurels

Kansas City, MO --- Junior Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, MA) has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire All-New England Region Fourth-team.

Macomber, who was voted on by the leagues head coaches as the MASCAC Player of the Year, ended the season establishing new program standards in goals (18) and points (42) as she also ended the year with six assists.

Her final ranks in the league standings were tied for second, third and tied for sixth, respectively, in each category.

Macomber was instrumental in leading the charge for the Lancers to a 14-4-4 overall record and a 7-0 mark in MASCAC play which culminated in WSU's fourth league regular season title and sixth conference tournament crown.

During regular season league play, Macomber collected nine goals – including four for game-winners over MCLA, Salem State, Westfield and Fitchburg State – and three assists during the regular season before she turned in her best performance for last during the postseason.

En-route to MASCAC Tournament MVP honors, Macomber netted both tallies in a 2-1 semifinal triumph over Bridgewater State before she had the lone marker in a 1-0 title game victory over Westfield State.

Macomber was also one of six student-athletes in New England to register seven or more game-winning goals this season.

With her record-setting campaign, Macomber enters her final semester of eligibility within striking distance of several Worcester State career milestones as she is fourth on the all-time scoring list with 74 points and fourth in career goals (31).

Due in large part to Macomber's efforts, the Lancers eclipsed the team record for assists (39) while finishing with the second most goals (48) and points (135) in program history.

The last WSU student-athletes to collect NSCAA accolades was former standouts Lauren Cush (First-team) and Kelsey Irish (Fourth-team) in 2007. Mass Maritime junior keeper Katie Levesque (Wilmot, NH) was also named to this year's NSCAA All-New England regional Fourth-team.

Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Kevin Cumberbatch, the Lancers made their sixth appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and earned a spot in the MASCAC Tournament semifinals for the 12th consecutive season.
