Cumberbatch Earns 100th Career Win in Lancers’ 3-0 Shutout over Becker College

LEICESTER, Mass. –10-year head coach Kevin Cumberbatch earned his 100th career win as the women's soccer head coach for Worcester State in the Lancers' 3-0 shutout over the host Becker College in a Thursday evening game at Alumni Field.

1ST HALF

Despite Worcester State taking 10 shots (four on goal) in the first half, the Lancers were unable to slip one past Becker's starting goaltender, Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.), resulting in a 0-0 score at the half.

 

2ND HALF

The Lancers stepped it up in the second frame as sophomore Kaitlin Beluzo (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied her fourth goal of the season when she blasted a solo shot from 25 yards out in the 55th minute. Following a lightening delay, Worcester State's Skylar Alves (Ashburnham, Mass.) setup rookie Talia Borci (Leicester, Mass.) for her the insurance goal, putting the score at 2-0. An own goal a minute later sealed Worcester State's victory.

 

A NUMBERS GAME

  • Throughout the entirety of the game, Worcester State's defense did not allow Becker one scoring opportunity, as they held a 25-0 shot advantage and a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.
  • Worcester State's goalkeepers Ashleigh Tapia (W. Warwick, R.I.) and Jill Zinkus (Grafton, Mass.) registered a combined shutout, while Tapia earned her first collegiate win in net.
  • Becker's Martel suffered the loss, stopping 13-of-15 shots on net for a .857 save percentage in the 78:19  minutes played.
  • With Cumberbatch's 100th career win, his record stands at 100-55-26 (.624).
