1ST HALF

Worcester State was the aggressor in the first half, as they stifled the Salem State attack, and kept constant pressure on the Vikings' defense.  Martin banged in a rebound in the 8th minute, set up by one of the Lancers four first half corner kicks, after Salem State goalie Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) made the initial stop, but she could not corral the ball as Martin put Worcester State on top 1-0 early in the first.

2ND HALF

The Lancers carried the 1-0 lead into the second half where the Lancers again were able to limit Salem State offensively.  Worcester State however was unable to put the game out of reach as the Lancers missed several opportunities, including an open look by Kaitlin Beluzo (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) in the 76th minute that was turned away by a diving Backe.

Butler finally gave Worcester State some breathing room as she converted a corner kick off the foot of Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass.) in the 81st minute for a 2-0 advantage. The defense did the rest as Salem State did not record a shot until Casey McFall Wilmington, Mass.) had one in the  85th minute.
