WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's senior defender Justine Butler (Marlborough, Mass.) has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team for her combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Butler currently holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a Nursing major. She was the recipient of Worcester State University's Presidential Scholarship, a member of the honors program since 2014 and has made her way to Dean's list each semester since she started at Worcester State.
Butler was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society in May 2015, inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society in November 2016, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing in Spring 2017.
Outside of the classroom, Butler is a member of Worcester State's Athlete Mentor Program (AMP) where she acts as a knowledgeable resource to peers, and supports the ideals of the athletic department in and out of the athletic arena. She is a member of an on-campus Trew Friends Club that raises awareness of organ donation, and is also a member of the National Student Nurses Association.
On the field, Butler has been a standout in the backfield for the Lancers' women's soccer program. Over the past few years, the Lancers have seen some of the teams' lowest goals against averages. This past season the Lancers stood at 0.87. Not only did she help the Lancers defensively this year, but came in third on the team in points with 11 (five goals, one assist). She was named to the MASCAC First Team All-Conference this season, after she was named to the All-Conference team the past two seasons and was tabbed the MASCAC Rookie of the Year in 2014.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed here for men and women, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The first-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-American honorees will be announced in December.
