Women's Soccer Picks Up Win over Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Talia Borci (Leicester, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game to lead the Worcester State University women's soccer team past Westfield State 1-0 on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Alumni Field.

The MASCAC win brings Worcester's overall record to 5-5, 3-0 in the conference, while Westfield slips to 4-3-1 and 2-1.

Borci tallied the game winner in the 63rd minute of play. A Westfield goal kick was headed by Ali Maldonado (Rutland, Mass.) back toward the Owl end, springing Borci past the defensive line. Borci slotted the breakaway inside the left post for the win.

Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) made six saves in the setback for the Owls and Lancer keeper Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, Mass.) came up with five to maintain the shutout.

Westfield put six shots on goal during the contest and had their best opportunities in the first half. Spellman was forced to make two sliding saves on Ashley Levya (Walpole, Mass.) and Caitlin MacGregor (Hampden, Mass.) shots towards the end of the first frame.

Westfield travels to Elms College on Oct. 3 for a 7:00 p.m. start while Worcester heads to Keene State on Oct. 2 at 6:00 p.m.
