WESTFIELD, Mass. - Five members of the MASCAC Champion Worcester State University women’s soccer team have earned All-Conference selections, as announced by the league Wednesday morning.
Junior midfielder Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass.) and sophomore Hannah Foster (Worcester, Mass.) both received First Team All-MASCAC honors. Earning Second Team nods were midfielder Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.), forward Ali Maldonado (Rutland, Mass.), and defender Christina Spinos (Wilmington, Mass.).
Fong earns her third consecutive All-Conference selection, and first First Team selection. The junior has started all 20 games for the Lancers this season, tallying three goals and one assist for seven points. Fong also converted one of two Worcester State penalty kicks on the season in a non-league loss to Western Connecticut State on October 8.
Foster, a star on the Lancer back line, makes the All-Conference team for the second season in a row, and also earns her first First Team nod. Foster and the Lancers allowed the second fewest goals per game in the MASCAC this season, with a team goals against average of 1.40, and just 0.82 in MASCAC play.
LeBlanc makes her third appearance on the MASCAC All-Conference team in 2019. The 2015 Rookie of the Year provided a huge spark in the midfield for the Lancers. She currently is the team’s second leading scorer with 15 points, and is tied for second with six goals. All four of LeBlanc’s regular season goals came in MASCAC play, and added two more in the conference tournament.
For Maldonado, it is her second straight season earning MASCAC All-Conference honors. The 2018 MASCAC Offensive Player of the Year led the Lancers in scoring with 14 goals, including the game-winning double overtime goal in last Sunday’s Championship match. Maldonado also earned MASCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, scoring four goals during Worcester State’s championship run.
Rounding out Worcester State’s all-conference honorees was first-time selection Spinos, a senior captain for the Lancers in 2019. Spinos was a key ball-moving defender for the MASCAC Champions who provided leadership both on and off the field. Spinos has started all 20 games for Worcester State this season, and tallied one assist on the year.
The Lancers will continue their season on Saturday evening when they face #7 Christopher Newport University in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
