Women's Soccer to Face Christopher Newport in NCAA First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Worcester State University women's soccer team will battle #7 Christopher Newport in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on the Women's Soccer Selection Show Monday afternoon.

Worcester State earned an automatic bid to the tournament by defeating Bridgewater State in double overtime in the MASCAC Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Lancers are currently 11-7-2 after winning their eighth MASCAC title.

Christopher Newport University, located in Newport News, Va., received an at-large bid to the Big Dance, after they were upset by Mary Washington in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Captains will enter their matchup against the Lancers with an overall record of 15-2-3.

The only mutual opponent for Worcester State and Christopher Newport this season was the MASCAC's own Westfield State University. Worcester State fell to Westfield State 2-1 in overtime on October 26, while Christopher Newport defeated the Owls 4-0 to open their season on August 30.

The game will be played at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. Kickoff between the Lancers and Captains is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. Live statistics and video will be available at WSULancers.com.
