Second Half Push Fall Short for Lancers

Second Half Push Fall Short for Lancers

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Soccer team (7-5-1, 5-1) returns to home field action for their last mid week regular season battle as they take on Eastern Connecticut State. The Lancers are looking to bounce back from a hard fought 1-0 loss to conference foe Westfield last weekend and recement their momentum before the final push of the regular season.

Final

Worcester State: 0

Eastern Connecticut: 2

How it Happened:

The first half started with a battle at center field for around the first ten minutes with the Warriors looking to mark their presence early. The first shot for the Warriors came just around the ten-minute mark, which junior goalkeeper Ella Gumienny (Douglas, MA) was able to secure for the first save of the game for the Lancers. Worcester would use this strong initial stop to shift the momentum and claim their piece of the action in the first half. Gumienny would add another save around ten minutes after the previous save off an attack that was curated from the Warriors that worked its way into the 6-yard box, but led to nothing. Junior defender Jessica Forbes (Clinton, MA) would attempt a header off a corner kick that would end up hitting the field goal upright for the first shot attempt of the night for Worcester and their biggest threat of the night. Forbes would have another look on net from a free kick, but the effort was stopped by the opposing goalkeeper, which was the story of the night for both squads as each looked for that next chance to open the game up.

The Lancers would concede two early goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to get them back into the game and build back the momentum that they had going into the break. Junior midfielder Olivia Magierowski (Brimfield, MA) was able to get a good look at the net for a goal to get the Lancers back in the game, but the Warriors' goalie was able to get another crucial save that would keep the Lancers off the board. Worcester was unable to climb back into the game, and as a result, they would lose 2-0 in this non-conference match up..
