N. Dartmouth, MA --- Freshman Shelby Jankins (E. Brookfield, MA) has been recognized as this week's Little East Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for helping lead Worcester State to a 2-0 week.
Jankins registered a 3-1 mark which included team victories over UMass Boston and Becker. She earned a straight-set win at second singles against her opponent from Becker (6-0, 6-2) before she teamed with sophomore Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) for a convincing 8-0 win at first doubles. Jankins ended the week with a 9-8 (7-4) triumph over the Beacons top doubles team.
On the season, Jankins is currently 1-3 on the season in singles action as the second seed, with a 6-3 and 6-3 setback against UMass Boston this past week against LEC Player of the Week Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA), and 2-2 against all first doubles competition.
The Lancers have two matches in the next week including a non-conference matchup with MCLA today at 3:30 and a LEC meeting with defending champion Bridgewater State on Saturday at 12 PM.
