Women's Tennis Swept By Bridgewater State, 9-0

 

Worcester, MA --- Paced by Bridgewater State seniors Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA), Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, MA) and Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, MA), the Bears defeated Worcester State 9-0 in Little East Conference women's tennis action this afternoon at Clark University.

With the win the Bears remain unbeaten at 4-0 (1-0 LEC) while the Lancers fall to 3-3 overall and even out their conference mark to 1-1.

Williamson, McGuirk and Hopp all won their respective singles matchups in straight sets while Williamson and Hopp teamed for the 8-5 victory over sophomore Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and freshman Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA) at first doubles.

Junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) dispatched WSU senior Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) at fourth singles (6-2, 6-0), junior Rachel Eramo (Rowley, MA) earned the win over junior Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) as the fifth seed (6-2, 6-3) before junior Hayley Perron (Plympton, MA) won the point at sixth singles (6-3, 6-1) over senior Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA).

McGuirk paired with Flynn for the 8-2 triumph at second doubles while Eramo and freshman Riley Palcic (Sun River, OR) chipped in with the 8-4 victory at third doubles over Michanczyk and Sarkis.

Both squads will host LEC opponents on Tuesday at 3:30. Worcester State entertains Salem State at Clark while the Bears take on Western Connecticut at the Rosen Courts.
