Johnson & Wales Shuts Down Women's Tennis, 9-0

Holden, MA --- Johnson and Wales swept all six singles points and each doubles matchup to defeat Worcester State, 9-0, at Wachusett High School this afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action.

The contest marked the regular season finale for the Wildcats who improved their record to 10-3 in the win. The Lancers slip to 7-6 with the setback.

The top flight doubles team of junior Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, NJ) and senior Ainsley Sego (Naperville, IL) bested sophomore Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and freshman Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA), 8-4 before third-year Darcy Predieri (Sunbury, OH) and rookie Morgan Thompson (Fargo, ND) blanked junior teammates Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT), 8-0.

Junior Gabrielle Longo (Philadelphia, PA) paired with sophomore Emily Glass (Sterling, CT) to edge senior classmates Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) and Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT), 8-5, in third doubles.

Singles was shortened to an eight-set pro-series due to impending darkness.

After Jo Borr handed Candelieri an 8-4 loss in the top seeded matchup, Thompson, Predieri, junior Stephanie Piperis (Yorktown Heights, NY) and senior Victoria Riccardi (Binghampton, NY) all won their respective solo play sets.

Sarkis was dealt an 8-3 setback for just her second defeat of the campaign at sixth singles (8-2).

WSU will prepare for their final regular-season contest this Saturday against Southern Maine on the road at 12 PM. A first-round home game is on the line for the Lancers in next week's Little East Conference Tournament.
