Women's Tennis Falls In Little East Semifinals To Bridgewater State

 

Bridgewater, MA --- Top-seeded Bridgewater State took all three doubles matches and two singles points to post a 5-0 victory over #4 Worcester State in the semifinal round of the Little East Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Tennis Courts.

With the win the Bears (12-0) advance to their third championship in the last four seasons. BSU takes on #2 Rhode Island College on Saturday in the championship after the Corsairs edge third-seeded UMass Dartmouth, 5-4.

The Lancers finish their campaign at 8-8 with the most wins since the 1996 season (7-5). The Blue and Gold were making their first-ever trip to the LEC Tournament semifinals.

Bridgewater State started off the match with wins at first doubles by senior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA) and classmate Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, MA) before fourth-year Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, MA) and junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) added the victory at second doubles.

Sophomore Alison Vautrin (Somerset, MA) and junior Rachel Eramo (Rowley, MA) then completed the sweep of pairs play with an 8-6 win over senior classmates Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA).

Williamson and Hopp tacked on the match clinching points for the Bears with straight set wins.

With 53 points, Michanczyk finishes her career as the second all-time leading scorer while her doubles wins are tied for the second-most in program history (27).
