Sarkis, Michanczyk Earn Little East Conference Women's Tennis Accolades

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Senior teammates Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) have both received a nod to the Little East Conference Women's Tennis Team as announced by league publicist Jack Holleran.

Sarkis was honored on the Second-team for her outstanding play at sixth singles while Michancyzk and Sarkis both earned Second-team accolades for their efforts at third doubles.

Little East Conference women's tennis honors are based on head-to-head competition in conference play. The laurels by Michancyzk and Sarkis are the first time that any Worcester State has ever been honored by the LEC in program history.

Sarkis went 9-2 overall at sixth singles and 7-1 in the nine-team loop. Her lone defeat in conference play on the season was to junior Hayley Perron (Plymouth, MA) of Bridgewater State.

In just three seasons wearing a Lancer uniform, Sarkis posted an impressive 23-15 record in singles play while she ended her career tied for eighth on the all-time scoring list with 39 points. Her 23 victories at solo play is tied for the seventh-highest sum in the program annuls.

As a team Michanczyk and Sarkis combined to go 10-4 with a 5-3 mark in the Little East circuit. Their setbacks in league action included defeats by Bridgewater State, Rhode Island College and UMass Dartmouth – the top three finishers in the conference.

Over the course of her four year career, Michanczyk put up the second-most points in club history (53). She also retires with a 27-16 record at pairs play – the second highest total in the record book.

With their outstanding play for the Blue and Gold this season, it comes as no surprise that Michancyzk and Sarkis finished first (20) and second (19) on the club in points, respectively.

Under the direction of second-year head coach Albana Xhemoallari, the Lancers (8-8, 4-4 LEC) captured their first-ever program win in a tournament game with a 5-2 win over Southern Maine. It also marked the first time that the Blue and Gold had hosted a postseason tournament contest.

Worcester State's season came to a close in the LEC semifinals to league champion Bridgewater State.
