Five From Womens Tennis Land On Little East Fall Academic Team

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Five Worcester State women's tennis student-athletes have been named to the Little East All-Academic team as announced by league publicist Jack Holleran.

The squad tied with Bridgewater State for most honorees in the conference.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be enrolled within their institution for a full academic year, be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and be a full time member of a varsity sport.

The honorees included junior Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT), second-year classmates Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, MA), and seniors Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA).

For both Michanczyk and Sarkis, this marks the third time that both have received the nod while it's the second for Tomasetti.

All five student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom as ITA Scholar-Athletes for achieving 2012-13 semester grade point averages of over 3.5.

The Lancers (8-8) under the guidance of second-year head coach Albana Xhemollari finished their fall season in the Little East Tournament semifinals. The Blue and Gold dispatched Southern Maine in the LEC quarterfinals for their first-ever win in the conference playoffs.
