Westfield, MA --- Worcester State women's tennis seniors Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) highlight nine selections for the MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team as announced by conference publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Both Michanczyk and Sarkis Culminate their careers by earning this distinction for all four years.

Juniors Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) and Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) join sophomore classmates Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) and Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) as two time honorees.

Other first time selections were third-year teammates Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and Page Hirons (Gardner, MA) and freshman Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA).

The team led the conference with nine selections and boasted a 3.44 cumulative team grade point average for the semester, which was the second highest among the nine Worcester State women's varsity athletic programs. Michanczyk, Sarkis, Tomasetti, Goncalves and Shepard also received Little East All-Academic team laurels.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester based grade point average during their semester of competition.

Under the direction of second-year head coach Albana Xheomollari, the Lancers (8-8, 4-4 LEC) posted their first-ever postseason tournament victory with a 5-3 triumph over Southern Maine in the Little East quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Bridgewater State.

Among institutions in the MASCAC, Worcester State had 78 overall selections on the league fall academic honor roll for the third highest total in the conference. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
