Women’s Tennis Falls to Bridgewater State, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's tennis team dropped their second match of the week to the host, Bridgewater State 8-1 Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

 

Bridgewater State came out with a doubles sweep as Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) blanked Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, Mass.) and Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) 8-0, and the other two resulted in 8-2 wins for Bridgewater.

 

Worcester State's sole win of the afternoon came from Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, Mass.) who defeated her opponent, Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) 7-5, 6-1. This marks Khafaga's fifth singles win of the season, as she now sits at 5-4.

 

Bridgewater State's singles wins came from Silva, Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.), Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.), Strickland, and Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.). Silva and Jankins went back and forth as Jankins topped her in the first set 6-2. However, Silva came back and claimed the No. 1 doubles win on a 6-4, 10-6 comeback.

 

The Lancers (5-5, 3-3 LEC) play their third and fourth matches of the week tomorrow and Saturday as they host Western Connecticut and Rhode Island College, respectively.
