ITA Release

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's tennis team has been named to the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of a 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).

The Worcester State University women's tennis team was not only recognized as a whole, but there was an individual who earned scholar-athlete status. Senior Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)/Little East Conference (LEC) All-Conference and All-Academic recipient, Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, Mass.), was tabbed a 2017 ITA scholar-athlete.

To be named an ITA scholar-athlete, one must have participated on the varsity team, maintained a grade point average of at least 3.40 (on a 4.00) scale for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

In all, 720 teams and 3,908 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored.
