BRISTOL, R.I. – The Worcester State women's tennis team was blanked by the Roger Williams University Hawks, 9-0, in a Thursday afternoon non-conference match.

THE MATCH

The Hawks commenced with strong doubles play as Worcester State's Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.) and Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, Mass.) were blanked 8-0 by Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles. Roger Williams scored its second point of the match at No. 2 doubles when Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) downed Rachel Green (Worcester, Mass.) and Isabel Badeau (Cumberland, R.I.) 8-2. Worcester State's duo of Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) and Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) put up a fight against Jess Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) as they were just edged 9-8 with a 7-4 tiebreaker.

 

Going into singles ahead 3-0, Roger Williams continued to dominate as No. 1 and No. 2 singles outscored their opponents by a total of 24-1. The closest singles match came at the No. 3 slot when the Hawks' Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) was the victor of a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Silk. Worcester State's Alves, Green, and Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) also saw losses in singles to conclude the match with a score of 9-0 in Roger Williams' favor.
