Clark Defeats Worcester State 8-1 in Women’s Tennis Spring Game

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's tennis team was defeated by Clark University by a score of 8-1 in a springtime cross-town matchup on Thursday afternoon.

THE MATCH

Clark University swept the Lancers in doubles play. Doubles partners Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.)/Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) and Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.)/Elizabeth Garfield (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) defeated Victoria Konicki (Auburn, Mass.)/Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) and Valerie Tocco (Pelham, N.H.)/Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.), respectively, by scores of 8-2. The final doubles match of the day was between duo Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.)/Jillian Skulsky (Marshfield, Mass.) defeated Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, Mass.)/Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-3 to head into singles play with Clark ahead 3-0.

 

Clark won five singles matches while Worcester State's Khafaga logged the Lancers lone win at No. 2 singles. She defeated Gates by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Alves was shutout by Long 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 slot. Silk, Collings, Tocco, and Konicki were also setback by Garfield, Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, Vt.), Tarbot, and Bichtroan Nguyen (Worcester, Mass.), respectively, at the No. 3-6 spots.
