Tennis Stymied by Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team was given more than it could handle Tuesday afternoon, following to the Nichols College Bison by a score of 9-0.

With the loss, the Lancers drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Bison stay perfect at 9-0.

The Bison came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, jumping ahead 3-0 after a dominant performance in doubles play. Nichols won at first and third doubles, before completing the doubles sweep when Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Colombia) combined to down Worcester State's Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) and Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.) 8-2 in the second position.

Nichols continued to roll when singles play began to complete the clean sweep of the Lancers. The match was clinched at the fifth singles position, where junior Danielle Mandel (Fair Lawn, N.J.) defeated Worcester State freshman Emily Costa (Dudley, Mass.) 6-0, 6-1.

The Lancers will have a quick turn-around, hosting Regis on Wednesday afternoon at Wachusett Regional High School. First serves are set for 3:30 p.m.
