Women's Tennis Can't Get By Regis

HOLDEN, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team could not handle the fire power of Regis Colege on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Pride by a score of 8-1 at Wachusett Regional High School.

The Pride won two of the three doubles matches of the day. Their first win came from the pairing of Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) and Lauren Mogelnicki
(Wethersfield, Conn.) beating their opponents in third doubles, 8-3.  The Pride's pairing for first doubles, Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.), defeated Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) and Monika Murlarski (Auburn, Mass.) 8-5. Worcester State would pick up the win at second doubles, as freshman Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) and Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.) came from behind to win 9-7.

Singles would all swing in favor of the Pride.  FitzPatrick would win in straight sets, defeating her opponent Emily Costa (Dudley, Mass.) 6-2, 6-2. Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) would defeat her opponent in straight sets as well (6-1, 6-3).

The clinching win of the day would come when Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) closed out her match (6-2, 6-0). Jarvis would then win third singles (6-3, 6-2), followed by McCormack winning first singles (6-2, 6-3). The team match ended with Mogelnicki finishing her contest in fourth singles in a super tiebreaker (4-6, 6-3, 1-0).

The Lancers will play again Saturday, Sept. 15 against Bridgewater State. The Pride play on Saturday as well when they face the Blue Jays of St. Joseph (Conn.) at the Regis Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.
