WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State Univeristy women's tennis team dropped a tough 9-0 decision to the unbeaten Rhode Island College Anchorwomen in Little East Conference action Sunday evening at Courash Courts.
With the loss, the Lancers fall to 6-7 and 4-4 in the Little East. The Anchorwomen wrap up the regular season with a perfect 15-0 record, and 9-0 in the Little East.
RIC sophomores Serena Bobola (Cranston, R.I.) and Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) defeated the Worcester State tandem of freshmen Emily Costa (Dudley, Mass.) and Emily Hamparian (Belchertown, Mass.), 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
The Anchorwomen's team of sophomores Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) earned an 8-3 win over sophomore Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, R.I.) completed the doubles sweep for the visitors with an 8-5 win over the WSU tandem of sophomores Dominque Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) and Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles
Bobola secured a straight set (6-0, 6-3) win vs. Mullane at No. 3 singles. Raskob bested Costa (6-0, 6-2) at No. 5 singles.
Siegmund defeated Hamparian (6-0, 6-1) at No. 6 singles. Braganca secured a straight set (6-1, 6-1) win over Collings at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) defeated Mularski (6-3, 6-4) at No. 2 singles and Zangari bested Alves in three sets (7-6 (7-0), 0-6, 10-4) at No. 1 singles to close out the match.
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will see action in the semifinals of the 2018 Little East Championship on Friday, Oct. 19. The Lancers will play a must-win matchup against Salem State.
