Women's Tennis Falls to Nichols in Spring Opener

DUDLEY, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team won a pair of doubles matches on Saturday afternoon, but couldn't hold on for the victory, falling 6-3 to Nichols College at the Robinson Tennis Courts.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 6-9 on the season.

Sophomores Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) and Victoria Konicki (Auburn, Mass.) picked up an 8-6 win for Worcester State at second doubles on the day, with Emily Costa (Dudley, Mass.) and Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) claiming an 8-3 win at third doubles, giving Worcester the 2-1 edge heading to singles.

In singles play however, Worcester State was only victorious in the six position, as Costa grabbed an 8-1 win for her second victory of the day. Nichols won the other five singles matches in straight sets to compete the come-from-behind win.
