DUDLEY, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the 2019 season on Sunday afternoon, falling to Nichols College 9-0 at the Robinson Tennis Courts.

With the loss, the Lancers drop to 1-1 on the young season.

The Lancers couldn't carry over any of the momentum from Saturday's season opening win over Wentworth, as the Bison looked sharp in its season debut. Senior Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) got two points from the Bison at first singles, but the hosts won 8-1 at both second and third doubles to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.

Nichols stayed in control when singles got underway to cruise to the victory. The Bison conceded just five games in singles play, and no Lancer won more than two games in any set.

Worcester State will look to return to the win column when they travel to Rhode Island to face Roger Williams on Tuesday. First serve from Bristol is set for 4 p.m.
