Women's Tennis Defeats Bridgewater State

HOLDEN, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team won its third matches in as many days Saturday, defeating Bridgewater State University 6-3 in Little East Conference action at Wachusett Regional High School.

With the win, Worcester State leaps to 8-4 overall this season and 5-2 in the Little East. Bridgewater State drops to 4-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

The first match of the day went to the Bears, as Bridgewater State won 8-3 at third doubles, but the Lancers rebounded in the first and second positions to take a 2-1 lead into singles. Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.) and Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) won 8-6 at first doubles, with Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.) and Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) winning 8-7 (7-5) at second doubles.

Brigewater State tied it back up by winning the first match in singles play, but wins by Mullane at fifth singles and Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) at fourth singles pushed Bridgewater State to the brink. Alves sealed the victory for the Lancers at the second position with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Taylor added Worcester State's sixth point in a tie break, winning 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 10-7 to give the match its final score of 6-3.

Worcester State will return to the courts on Tuesday for a home match against UMass Dartmouth. First serves at scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Wachusett Regional High School.
