Women's Tennis Defeats UMass Dartmouth on Senior Day

HOLDEN, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 Senior Day win over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon in Little East Conference action at Wachusett Regional High School.

With the win, Worcester State runs its winning streak to four matches, and moves to 9-4 overall this season, with a 6-2 mark in the Little East. UMass Dartmouth drops to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in the LEC.

Worcester State's lone senior, Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.), was celebrated by the Lancers prior to the match, her final regular season home match in a Worcester State uniform.

Worcester State looked strong out the gate, picking up three wins in doubles play to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Sophomore Charlotte Mullane (Sterling, Mass.) and junior Emma Collings (Marion, Mass.) were dominant at second doubles, shutting out their opponents to the tune of an 8-0 win to put the Lancers on the board first. Juniors Bekah Riley (Ellington, Conn.) and Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) extended the lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 win on the third doubles court, before Taylor and junior Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) came from down 4-1 to defeat UMass Dartmouth's top duo 8-4.

The Lancers continued to roll in singles play to secure the victory, with Mularski recording the clinching win on the afternoon, winning 6-3, 6-0 at the number four position. UMass Dartmouth's lone win came at the first singles position, where freshman Lauren Morgart (Weston, Mass.) defeated Taylor 6-3, 6-0.

Worcester State will return to action on Thursday afternoon, playing their final non-conference contest of the season on the road at Regis. First serves are slated for 3:30 p.m.
