Women's Tennis Falls in LEC Quarterfinal

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's tennis team saw its fall season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon, as the fourth-seeded Lancers fell to #5 Bridgewater State 5-2 in the First Round of the Little East Conference Tournament at the Corash Tennis Courts.

With the defeat, the Lancers conclude their fall season with a mark of 9-6. Bridgewater State improves to 7-8 and advances to face top-seeded Rhode Island College in the Semifinals on Thursday.

The Lancers got the day started off on the right foot with an 8-4 win at first doubles from junior Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.), but the Bears claimed victories at second and third doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

After the Bears took the first singles match on court three, junior Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) chipped into the visitors' lead with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at fourth singles. Mularski would be the only Lancer to win in singles however, as wins at first and sixth singles clinched the match for Bridgewater State.

Worcester State will be off for the winter until playing a handful of non-conference matches in the spring, the details of which are currently to be announced.
