Northampton, MA --- Sophomore Mara Kralian (N.
Grafton, MA) picked up right where she left off from the outdoor
season to qualify for the nationals and reset a three of school
records to help lead the Women’s Indoor Track and Field team
at the Smith Winter Classic. Kralian highlighted 15 post-season
qualifying performances in the opening meet of the season for the
squad.
Kralian was sensational as she qualified provisionally for the NCAA
Division III Indoor meet in the long jump with a leap of 17-10.25
while she punched her ticket to the ECAC’s with blistering
times of 7.35 in the 55 meter dash and 26.30 in the 200. Kralian
eclipsed Elke Aun’s mark in the long jump (17-1), Nicole
Spence’s 55 (7.41 FAT) and 200 record’s (26.35).
First-year teammates Brianna Wise (Worcester,
MA/Burncoat) and Leah Walczak (Whitinsville,
MA/Northboro) along with junior Andrea Ouellette
(Salisbury, MA) also had solid performances. Ouellette captured
first in the triple jump (35-10.50), Walczak ran the top time in
the 600 (1:39.37) and Wise placed second in the 55 (7.54) and 200
(26.90).
Sophomore Mercedes Arnold (Mira Loma, CA) finished
second both the triple jump (35-05.25) and the high jump (4-09.0)
while freshman Rose Mathieu (Cambridge, MA) and
Ouellette took fourth (16-08.50) and fifth (16-01.75),
respectively, in the long jump.
Rounding out the field was junior Christina Bisbee
(N. Attleboro, MA) who tossed third in the weight throw (41-02.50)
while first-year Cathy Chaude (Marlboro, MA)
tallied fourth in the shot put. Freshman Kristen
Brunelle (Dracut, MA) also registered sixth in the shot
with a throw of 34-01.50.
The hurdlers had a quality finishes in the 55-meter event as
freshman Steph Muse (Chelmsford, MA), Chaude,
Ouellette and first-year Kayle McElroy (Rutland,
MA) each recorded second (9.12), third (9.21), fourth (9.40) and
fifth place (9.43), respectively.
Sophomore Maura Withington (West Palm Beach, FL)
led the distance corps as she clocked fourth in the 1 mile run
(5.56) and sixth in the 3,000 meter run (12:15.51). First-year
Kristina Richard (Peabody, MA) and classmate
Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) each placed sixth
as Richard did it in the 800 (3:01.98) and Grueter’s time was
in the 1,000 (3:34).
Freshman Natalie Marchi (Northbridge, MA) added
fifth in the 400 (1:08.34) while sophomore Sarah
Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) timed eighth in the 55 meter dash
(7.96). Mathieu finished fifth in the 200 (28.18).
The Lancers will finish off their December schedule at the Harvard
Individual next week.
