Women's Indoor Track Kicks Off Season At UMass Boston Open

Roxbury Crossing, MA --- Junior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) stamped her ticket to the postseason in two events as she helped pace the women's indoor track and field team in their season opener at the UMass Boston Open held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The non-scoring meet featured top notch competition from several local Division II and III institutions. In total, the Lancers set 13 personal records at the meet.

Hodgerney clocked an 8.09 in the 60 meters to qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships with eighth place before she timed a personal best time for seventh in the 200 (26.92) for a Division III New England Championship qualifier.

Senior Christy Deininger (Attleboro, MA) had an outstanding start to her final indoor season with a pair of Open New England times in the 60 meter hurdles with the second-highest time in the trials (9.41) as she settled for third overall (9.43).

Deininger finished her day by clocking 8.17 in the 60 for ninth place and a Division III New England standard.

Third-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) added a solid 9.75 for fifth overall in the 60 meter hurdle trials before ending the afternoon with 9.92 finishing in seventh. Along with wrapping up her meet with sixth in the long jump (16-4.50/4.99m) both of her performances were Division III New England qualifiers.

Other Division III New England qualifiers included senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) who placed fifth (1:22.47) and sixth (1:22.59 - PR) in the 500, respectively, while junior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) notched a seventh place split in the trials (9.86) of the 60 meter hurdles.

McMahon notched eighth in both the 60 meter hurdle finals (9.93) and 400 (63.07) before taking home 12th in the long jump (15-3/4.65m).

In the field, Junior Cayla Leinonen (Spencer, MA), sophomore Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) and first-year Erin McIntyre (Whitinsville, MA) all cleared fourth in the high jump (4-11/1.50m).

Junior Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) registered fifth in the weight throw (40-6.50/12.36m), sophomore Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) tossed a shot put personal record of seventh (36.0-50/10.99m) and freshman Nicole Hobin (Sutton, MA) tallied eighth in the triple jump (32-11.50/10.05m).

The Blue and Gold will conclude their fall semester schedule when they return to the Reggie Lewis Center next week at the Jay Carisella Open hosted by Northeastern.
