Women's Indoor Track Places Fourth At Tufts Invitational

 

Medford, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA), junior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) and classmate Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) all posted strong sprinting performances as they helped the Worcester State women's indoor track team place fourth overall at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers tallied 75.33 points as a team while the hosting Jumbo's won the meet with 212 points.

Deininger was the lone first place finisher for WSU as she timed 9.24 in the 60 meter hurdles before she wrapped up the meet with seventh in the 60 finals (8.28). McMahon was the runner-up in the 400 meters (1:03.14) while Hodgerney placed third in the 200 (27.39).

Hodgerney and McMahon also ran the final legs of the 4x200 relay that included third-year classmates Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) that timed 1:51.98 and placed third.

Other strong performances on the track included freshman Jessica Krafft (Milford, NH) who was fifth in the 200 (27.75) and junior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) crossed the finish line in fifth in the 60 meter hurdles (10.22).

Jasper was all over Tuft's Gantcher Center as she came in sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (10.27) as well as seventh in the 200 (28.04), shot put (34-3.75/10.46m) and long jump (15-0.25/4.58m).

Sophomore Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) paced the field events with a Division III New England qualification standard in the high jump (4-11.25/1.52m) for third place.

Second-year Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) had a personal-best leap in the triple jump for third (33-6/10.21m), Caldarone was fourth in the long jump (15-4.50/4.69m) and McMahon right behind in eighth in the long jump (14-11.50/4.56m).

Senior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed fifth in the shot put (34-8.50/10.58m) and ninth in the weight throw (34-4.75/12.01m) to pace the throws group.

Next week, the Blue and Gold will compete at Springfield Invitational on Saturday.
