Jasper Named Corvais ECAC New England Track & Field Athlete of the Week

Centerville, MA --- Junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been distinguished as the Corvais ECAC Female Division III New England Track & Field Athlete of the Week for her tremendous multi-event performance in the pentathlon at the Springfield Invitational.

Jasper, who was also named MASCAC Female Field Athlete of the Week on Monday, tallied 2,853 points in the pentathlon for the fourth-highest finish in the event out of eight competitors.

In her first pentathlon of the indoor season, Jasper had the top toss in the shot put (38-4.75/11.70 meters), the third-best time in the 800 (2:44.04), the fourth-highest 60 meter hurdles finish and she was fifth in the long jump.

Entering the weekend, Jasper tied for the 25th highest point total in the NCAA Division III and the seventh-best total in New England. She is just 839 points off of sophomore Amelia Campbell (Sturgeon Bay, WI) of Carlton who established the top spot in the nation this past weekend.

Japser looks to compete at the NCAA indoor national meet for the first time after enjoying success regionally last outdoor season in the heptathlon. Her best collegiate finish in the pentathlon is 2,920 points, which was ninth overall during her first-year campaign at the Division III New England Championships.

This past winter, Jasper took the indoor track season off and competed on the women's basketball team as a power forward. The squad was the regular-season conference runner-up and league tournament semifinalists.

The MASCAC weekly field athlete honor for Jasper marked her second this season after she had an ECAC Division III qualifying toss in the shot put (38-7.50/11.77m) on January 12 at the Dartmouth Relays.

Worcester State competes again tomorrow at the Boston University Valentine Invitational as a warm-up to the MASCAC/Alliance Championships at Southern Maine on February 15.
