Deininger Recieves Nod As MASCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

 

Westfield, MA --- For the second time in three weeks, senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) has been named MASCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performances this past weekend at the Springfield Invitational.

Deininger, placed second overall in the 60 meter hurdles (9.21) and finished eighth in the 60 meters (8.39) while she also qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships with the sixth fastest split in the trials (8.10).

Entering the weekend, Deininger's time in the 60 meter hurdles from this past weekend is the sixth among Division III New England schools and is tied for 27th in the NCAA Division III. In her senior year, Deininger tries to stamp her ticket to the national indoor meet for the first time as the top 17 times, heights, distances and point totals in Division III are selected for the field.

Her 60 meter trial split on Saturday was also tied for 21st regionally and is fourth among New England Alliance institutions with one week to go before the MASCAC/Alliance Championship on February 15.

Deininger garnered MASCAC weekly laurels on January 19 for two solid splits in both short sprint events (60H – 9.24; 60 – 8.28) as she was instrumental in helping lead the Lancers to fourth at the Tufts Invitational.

The Blue and Gold will compete tomorrow at the Boston University Valentine Invitational as a warm-up to their conference championships next week.
