Women's Indoor Track Takes Home Third At MASCAC Championships

 

Gorham, ME ---Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) established a new meet and school record with the top finish in the  55 meter hurdles (8.30) while she added second overall in the 55 meters (7.40) to help pace the Worcester State women's indoor track team to third place this evening at the MASCAC Championships.

Bridgewater State captured their first-ever indoor crown with 215 points followed by Westfield State (173) and the Lancers sum of 125 points.

Southern Maine won the Alliance with 184 points while UMass Dartmouth (59) and UMass Boston (58) beat out the Blue and Gold, who tallied the eighth most points (56) against their Little East Conference counterparts.

Deinigner won her third straight MASCAC/Alliance title as her converted split is the fifth fastest NCAA Division III 60 meter hurdles time as of Saturday evening (8.93). Deininger also clocked the third-best Alliance time in the 55 meters and her previous 55 meter hurdles standard was set at the MASCAC Championships during her sophomore year (8.39).

The 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Nichole Tillery (Auburn, MA) at lead along with junior classmates Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) at second, Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) at third and Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) as the anchor timed 1:46.56 saw gold in the MASCAC while placing as the runner-up in the Alliance.

Hodgerney also had a strong day with second in the 200 (26.72) and fourth in the 55 (7.55) as sophomore Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) crossed the line as the finalist in the 600 (1:43.09) to qualify for the Division III New England Championships.

Jasper placed second in the long jump (16-7/5.05 meters), fourth in the 200 (27.34) and fifth in the shot put (35-6/10.82m). Junior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) was another solid competitor in the field with fourth in the long jump (16-5/5.00m), fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.18) and fifth in the high jump (4-9.75/1.47m).

Senior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed third in the shot put (37-11.50/11.57m) and chipped in with sixth in the weight throw (40-8.75/12.41m).

Junior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) notched fifth individually in the long jump (15-11.75/4.87m), sixth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.41) and sixth in the 400 (1:02.72) before anchoring the second-place 4x400 meter relay (4:15.13).

The 4x400 relay also included third-year Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) at leadoff, sophomore Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA) second and junior Kim West (Harvard, MA) as the third leg.

Taylor placed fourth in the 400 (1:02.57), freshman Jessica Krafft (Milford, NH) registered fifth in the 200 (27.40), second-year Maddison Benson (Attleboro, MA) was fifth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.39), Bodensieck added sixth in the 55 (7.62) as West finished sixth in the 600 (1:50.56).

The distance corps were propelled by junior Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) who took fourth in the 3,000 (11:25.05) and the fifth-place split of senior Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) in the 5,000 (20:54.55).

Sophomore Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) and classmate Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) were third (33-4/10.16m) and fourth (33-0.50/10.07m), respectively, in the triple jump while sophomore Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) marked up fourth in the shot put (36-4.25/11.08m).

Next week select Lancers will compete at the two-day Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield.
