Relay's Help Women's Indoor Track Tie For 21st At Division III New Englands

 

Springfield, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) clocked third overall in the 60 meter hurdles (8.96)  to help lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team tie for 21st at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield.

The Lancers amassed eight team points while the top four included Williams (150), MIT (119), Tufts (94) and Amherst (67). The finish also marked the fifth straight year that the Lancers were among the top 25 scoring teams.

Deininger, who posted her first sub 9.00 time of the campaign, earned All-New England recognition in the 60 meter hurdles for the third-straight season. She blazed the track, tying for second in the trials (9.12) and tied for 11th in the 60 meters (7.99).

For her efforts on the track this week, Deininger was selected the Co-MASCAC Athlete of the Week.

Both relay teams also captured All-New England accolades with eighth place finishes.

The 4x200 team of sophomore Nichole Tillery (Auburn, MA) at leadoff, junior Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) second, junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) third and teammate Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) timed 1:46.84 for eighth place.

The 4x400 team of senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) at the top, sophomore Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) second, junior Kim West (Harvard, MA) third and classmate Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) sprinted to 4:07.67.

In the field, senior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) was just out of the running for All-New England laurels, placing ninth in the shot put (11.79 meters/38-8.25) as she qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships.

Hodgerney was 10th in the 200 (26.52) and she tied for 19th in the 60 (8.09) while Reihl timed 1:00.63 in the 400 for 13th place. Junior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) had a leap of 13th in the long jump (16-3.75/4.97m) and 22nd in the 60 meter hurdles (9.78) as Jasper recorded 15th in the long jump (16-2.25/4.93m) and put up a personal-best split in the 60 meter hurdles (9.73).

McMahon also placed 18th in the 400 (1:01.48) before Taylor posted a split of 1:02.58 for 24th place. McMahon and sophomore Maddison Benson (Attleboro, MA) were 25th (9.90) and 26th (10.02), respectively in the 60 meter hurdles. 

In the high jump, freshman Erin McIntyre (Whitinsville, MA) cleared 14th (5-1/1.55) as sophomore Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) finished 20th (4-11/1.50m) in the same event.

Second-year Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) marked up 22nd in the shot put (35-11.25/10.95m) to round out the competators for the Lancers at the Division III New England Championships.

The Blue and Gold continue their postseason next week when select members compete at the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University.
