Deininger Takes Home Open New England Accolades In 60 Meter Hurdles

Boston, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) wrapped up her solid weekend with eighth in the 60 meter hurdles to help the Worcester State women's indoor track & field team tie for 34th place at the Open New England Championships this afternoon.

The 46th Annual event features the best in New England representing all Division I, II and III institutions at Boston University. The Northeastern women (115) defeated the University of Rhode Island for the team crown (101).

Deininger, who also had an eighth place finish during the indoor Open New England's during her sophomore year, timed 8.96 to tie her season-best - which is just 0.02 off the school record.

She was the only Division III student-athlete in the 60 meter hurdle finals which included six Division I competitors. For her efforts, she was named the MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Deininger is currently tied for 11th in the latest NCAA Division III Indoor rankings as of Sunday evening with a converted 8.93 from her top 55 split at the New England Alliance/MASCAC Championships two weeks ago.

The 4x400 relay team of senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA - 61.12) leading off, junior is Kim West (Harvard, MA - 61.59) third and classmate Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA - 59.47) along with sophomore Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT - 59.13) were just off the school record with a time of 4:01.60 in 23rd place.

Along with other select Lancers, junior Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) will compete this weekend at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Northeastern at the Reggie Lewis Center. Bodensieck posted a personal-best time of 10th place in the 200 (26.44) at the Boston University Last Chance Meet on Sunday.
