Stellar Performances Pace Women's Indoor Track To Third At MASCAC Championships

 

Providence, RI --- The 4x200 meter relay team, underscored a trio of conference titles to help lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team to third overall at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships this afternoon at the Providence Career and Technical High School.

The Lancers tallied 143 points, which was just off Westfield State's sum of 149 in second while notching 55 points for seventh place in the New England Alliance.

The 4x200 relay team of junior Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty), classmate Nichole Tillery (Auburn, MA), senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and senior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) at anchor won their fourth Alliance crown in the last five years with a stellar time of 1:47.33.

Jasper also won the 200 meters with a time of 27.05 while classmate Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) captured her fourth career combined MASCAC indoor/outdoor long jump crown (16-10.25/5.14m).

Hodgerney was second in the 60 meters (8.23) and third in the 200 (27.40) as junior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, MA) placed second in the triple jump (33-11.75/10.36m) and third in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m).

Jasper, who competed in six events, ended her day with third in the shot put (36-1.50/11.01m) and 60 (8.23) before she registered fourth in the long jump (14-4.25/4.98m) and fifth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.58).

The 4x400 meter relay of senior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South), Le and senior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) was the MASCAC runner-up and earned All-Alliance accolades in fourth (4:14.47).

Junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) paced a solid throws group with second in the shot put (38-6.50/11.75m) while classmate Molly Downing (Dedham, MA) was fourth in the weight throw (42-1/12.83m). Sophomore Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, MA) added fifth in the shot put (32-7.25/9.94m) and sixth in the weight throw (38-4.35/11.69m)

After tacking on third in both the 60 meter hurdles (9.38) and 400 (1:01.68), McMahon was fifth in the long jump (15-11.25/4.86m) as Le recorded fourth in both the 200 (27.45) and triple jump (32-4/9.86m).

Freshman Danielle Bavoux (Medway, MA) and classmate Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, MA) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 600 while sophomore Danielle Cote (Dighton, MA) took home fifth in the mile (5:54.38), junior Maddie Benson (Attleboro, MA) vaulted to sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.89) and Tillery chipped in with sixth in the 200 (28.11).

Corcoran, freshman Rachel Lauzon (Carver, MA), Cote and Bavoux led an All-MASCAC 4x800 meter relay team that notched fourth (10:58.35).

Next weekend, select members of the Blue and Gold will compete at the two-day Division III New England Championships hosted by Smith.
