4x400 Relay Bests School Record At Open New England Championships

 

McMahon Named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week

 

Boston, MA --- Underscored by the 58.00 second split by senior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA), the 4x400 meter relay team placed 22nd and eclipsed a school record to help lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team at the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University.

With the 10th best Division III relay, the team of Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South), junior Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), classmate Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) and McMahon as the anchor leg sprinted to a time of 4:00.38.

The previous mark was 0.02 seconds slower was previously held by Megan Taylor, Christy Deininger, Emily Riehl and McMahon as the fourth leg and set also set two years ago at the same meet.

For her outstanding accomplishment this week, McMahon earned this week's nod as MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) had a solid four-events in the pentathlon on Friday, before withdrawing from the 800 meters. Against Division I competition, she bested the field in the 60 meter hurdles (9.22) and had the second-best shot put (39-1.75/11.93 meters).

As of Sunday morning, Jasper still has the 14th best pentathlon total (3,236 points) in Division III as the top 17 are chosen for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in two weeks.

This upcoming weekend, the Lancers will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships which will be held at the NYC Armory.
